Nana Doakie’s mince stew

This is hardly fine dining but I do admit to enjoying mince on toast every now and then.

My mother supplied this recipe to my children who claim “It’s the best mince EVER!”

So I’m sharing it with you. I have not made this myself but think that, now that one of my boys was sent the recipe, I will be forced into cooking this dish. Apparently it’s good on sandwiches for school!

Ingredients:

  • Mince – the amount was not specified but lets assume around 600 – 700 grams
  • 2 onions diced
  • 2 carrots diced
  • salt and pepper
  • 2 tablespoons of tomato relish
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato sauce

Method:

Barely cover the mince with water. Add all other ingredients and mix through. Cook slowly for two hours (yes, you heard right).

Once cooked mix 1 tablespoon of flour with a little water to make a thickening paste. Thicken.

That’s it. I recommend using the best mince possible for this dish.
